The Union County Sheriff's Office began a college intern program in 1992.
This program began in an effort to reduce the number of sheriff's personnel assigned or utilized in administrative support activities.
The purpose of this program is to familiarize the student with the various
units within the sheriff's office. The student works in each of the various units and at the end of the semester should be able to understand how
the sheriff's office operates.
More than 75 students have successfully completed our internship program.
This is a non-paid internship. Students must receive credit through their
college or university.
Qualified candidates must have a 3.0 GPA or better, major in criminal justice, public administration, sociology, psychology or other related field.
Work experience may be substituted. Students from the following colleges
or universities have participated in our program:
Kean University,
Ramapo College, Rutgers University,
Seton Hall University,
Union County College, Middlesex County College, Jersey City State College, John Jay College.
