An Elizabeth man and women who shared a common-law marriage died this weekend in what the Medical Examiner’s office has classified as a murder/suicide, said Union County Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow.
Police were called to 761 Maggie Avenue around 8:20 p.m. on Saturday night, said Romankow. Upon arrival they discovered Argael Rincon DOB: 5/30/1956 and Maria Alvarez DOB: 2/17/1964 suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the investigation a relative who was home at the time heard the couple arguing followed by gunshots, said Romankow. The Medical Examiner determined that Alvarez died from a gunshot wound to the chest. Rincon died of a self-inflicted gunshot to the head. A .32 caliber handgun was recovered at the scene. Ballistics performed on the bullets and gun confirms that the case was a murder suicide.
The investigation was handled by the Union County Homicide Task Force and the Elizabeth Police Department. |
