The Union County Medical Examiner has ruled the death on Friday of a county Sheriff’s Officer as a suicide. The autopsy was completed this morning.
Officer Mark Muscatello, 54, was found inside of his Fanwood home on Friday morning by members of his department, said Sheriff Ralph Froehlich. The officers responded after Muscatello failed to report to duty that morning.
The Medical Examiner ruled that Muscatello died from a single self-inflicted gunshot wound.
“Mark was a good man, a dedicated officer whose love of music was inspiring,” said Froehlich. “During his twenty year career Mark was always the first one to lend help to fellow officers. He would volunteer with veteran’s groups. He will be forever missed by this department.”
The investigation was handled by the Union County Prosecutor’s Office, the New Jersey State Police and the County Sheriff’s Department. |
