A Union County Grand Jury found that a Roselle Police Officer who discharged his weapon during a raid earlier this year, striking a suspect in the shoulder, is not criminally responsible, announced Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow.
On April 1, 2009 officers were executing a court-authorized narcotics search warrant at 1173 St. Georges Ave in Roselle. Shortly after entering the building, Roselle Police Department Detective Joseph Osty slipped on some wet pavement causing him to accidently discharge one round from his service weapon.
The suspect involved in the warrant, Andre Doss, 28, was struck in the upper shoulder and was treated for non-life threatening injuries at a local hospital, according to the investigation.
The Grand Jury found that the shooting was accidental and that no criminal charges should be brought against Det. Osty. The officer is represented by Patrick Toscano of Caldwell. |
