A South Plainfield man plead guilty earlier this week to one count of 2nd degree robbery, said Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow.
Michael Wilson, DOB: 4/9/1960 admitted in court on Wednesday that on March 27, 2009 he robbed the Chase Bank on Broad Street in Elizabeth, making off with $2,400, said Assistant Prosecutor Albert Zabady Jr., who handled the case.
Due to a strong investigation led by Detective Robert Hilongos of the Elizabeth Police Department, investigations were able to identify and arrest Wilson several hours after the crime, said Zabady.
At the time of his arrest he had only $1,400 on his person, saying he spent the rest of the stolen money on a haircut, purchasing illegal drugs and gave the rest to friends as “gifts” said Zabaday.
As part of his plea he faces up to 6 years in jail when sentenced on July 31 before Union County Superior Court Judge Joseph P. Donohue. He will also be required to make a full restitution to the bank. |
