A joint investigation between the Union County Homicide Task Force and the Linden Police Department has resulted in the arrest of a 32-year-old Linden man wanted in connection with a April 2007 homicide, said Union County Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow.
Kareem Prunty was arrested on Friday evening and charged with 1st degree homicide in the shooting death of Gregory Fils-Aime in Linden, said Romankow. Prunty is being held at the Union County Jail on $2 million bail.
According to the investigation Prunty and Fils-Aime had argued while inside of a local bar and both let a short time later, said Romankow.
“As Mr. Fils-Aime walked west on Roselle Street, the investigation revealed that Mr. Prunty approached and fired several shots at the victim,” said Romankow.
Fils-Aime, 28 of Roselle was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Union County Homicide Task Force was launched in September 2008 in response to the large number of unsolved homicides in the county. It is currently comprised of 16 investigators from both county and municipal departments and five Assistant Prosecutors.
In recent weeks the Task Force has made arrests in several open cases, including a 1982 homicide in Plainfield.
These criminal charges are mere accusations.
The defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. |
