Update on police-involved shooting at the Swan Motel in Linden

As the investigation into an incident involving an off-duty police officer firing his weapon late Monday night at a Linden motel, authorities have charged the two men who attempted to rob the officer, said Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow.

Louis Adams DOB: 10/28/1970 of Newark and Kenneth Green DOB: 4/15/1973 face numerous charges, including attempted burglary, weapons possession and carjacking, said Romankow.

As the Newark Police Department officer, Daniel DeAmorin attempted to enter his room, two men approach and attempt to rob the officer. At that point, DeAmorin – who was carrying his service weapon – fired several shots at the men, striking them both. DeAmorin joined the force earlier this year.

Green then stole a car that was parked near the motel’s front door and fled the scene. Adams left the motel driving a car the men used to get to the motel, said Romankow.

Both men first sought attention at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Wayne but were transferred St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson, because that hospital has a designated trauma center.

Both men remain hospitalized at the Paterson hospital in stable condition.

Green is charged with 2nd Attempted burglary while armed, 2nd degree Possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, 1st degree Carjacking, 2ndRobbery and 2nd degree Certain persons not to have a weapon.

Adams is charged with 2nd degree Attempted burglary while armed, 2nd degree Possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and 2nd degree Certain Persons not to have weapons.

Both are under full time watch at the hospital pending their release and subsequent transport to the Union County Jail, said Romankow.

This remains an on-going investigation.

These criminal charges are mere accusations.
The defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
