In 1993, the Union County Police acquired a state-of-the-art Caswell Mobile Police Firearms Training Range. This effort represented two years of planning and development. The Caswell Mobile Range is designed within, what outwardly appears to be a common semi-trailer. The inside of this trailer contains a fully automated, computer-operated, functional pistol range.Ballistically secure the range can be transported and operated anywhere. It allows for re-qualification of police officers semi-annually and brings the range to the officer rather than the officer to the range. The range has also dramatically cut overtime costs that were common place in the past during firearms qualifications.
For the last few years the Mobile Pistol Range has traveled to the Union County Jail in Elizabeth for on-site qualifications of the Union County Corrections Officers. Here again, a substantial savings in overtime costs was realized by bringing the range to the officer. The mobility of the pistol range is also beneficial for public access viewing. |
