The Bureau of GIS (Geographic Information Systems) provides technical support and training to all county and municipal governments within Union County in the area of GIS. GIS is an innovative and highly accurate technology that enables the integration of tabular data into a computer-generated map in a timely manner. County and municipal governments, together with law enforcement and emergency management offices within Union County have already incorporated the GIS data into the decision making process for Homeland Security, Community Development, Planning and Economic Development.
The County of Union first had the aerials done in 1999 and are in the planning stage to update these aerials sometime next year. The aerials consists of 1”=50’ for three municipalities and 1”=100’ for the remaining 18 towns. In addition, the County has many valuable and useful layers which we share with all our participants. Any municipality within Union County may participate in our GIS program by digitizing its Parcels and the Bureau of GIS provides all the support and necessary data layers. Once a municipality is a participant in GIS, the Bureau will update its information periodically as more data is collected.
