Air Pollution Control |
is one of the primary responsibilities of the Environmental Enforcement Office. This includes any odor or dust complaints that cross a real property line affecting the resident of that property. Inspectors are also responsible for checking facility compliance regarding permits from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) for emission equipment, boilers, and gas station vents and vapor recovery systems. |
Noise Pollution |
is dealt with by inspectors certified by the NJDEP as Noise Control Officers. Noise measurement equipment is available to be used by these inspectors to obtain readings from a facility that is suspected of being in violation. |
The Solid Waste Control Program |
is responsible for investigating illegal dumping occurances in Union County, along with local health departments. The County Ordinance provides for stiff penalties, including seizure of vehicle and loss of driver's license for anyone convicted of violating the Code. Inspection of garbage transfer facilities also fall under the authority of the program. Inspectors check several locations to verify that regulations and permits are being followed. Recommendations are made to assist operators in their compliance with permits. |
