The Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders recognized George A. Castro, II, event Chairman for the complimentary showing of Charles Dicken’s timeless holiday classic, “A Christmas Carol,” for sponsoring the presentation by the American Family Theater on December 21, 2002 at the Ritz Theater and the Performing Arts Center.

Freeholder Alexander Mirabella, who attended one of the shows with his family said, “in addition to providing this show, we are proud to recognize George for his outstanding community service as evidenced by the interest and leadership he has given in many worthwhile organizations, as well as the respect and esteem in which he is held by his colleagues.”  The Freeholder made his remarks as he presented a Resolution to Castro at a recent meeting of the Board in Elizabeth.

Castro arrived in the United States in 1985 with only a quarter in his back pocket for good luck. He has since built one of Century 21’s best performing real estate agencies in the county with more than $150 million in sales in 2001. Castro came to this country to pursue a law degree. He started his own cleaning company that grew in a few years to employ more than 60 people and took on some of the state’s largest contracts. During this time, he also got involved with real estate. He studied and received his real estate license in 1989 and even though there was a downturn in the economy, he was the top-producing agent in his office and even tripled his sales the following year.

In 1991, he opened his own real estate office named Countywide Realty in Roselle Park. In less than 15 months, he recruited 15 sales people and became one of the most successful agencies in New Jersey. In 1995, he purchased a Century 21 franchise renaming his company Century 21 Atlantic Realtors, Inc.

In addition, Castro is active in the community and public affairs. He has received a Congressional pin for Realtors Active in Politics and has been recognized by the State Senate, the United Stated Congress, the County Freeholder Board and the City of Woodbridge for his outstanding community achievements. He is listed in Who’s Who for U.S. Hispanic Businesses.

“On behalf of the entire Board of Chosen Freeholders of the County of Union, I extend our wholehearted and sincere thanks to George A. Castro, II, for his work as Event Chairman for the complimentary showing of “A Christmas Carol,” Freeholder Mirabella said.
