CLARK, NJ – The Union County Summer Arts Festival concert series continues on Wednesday, Aug. 18, with a performance by The Nerds. The Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders, led by Chairman Daniel P. Sullivan, invites the public to attend this free outdoor concert of rocking revelry, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Oak Ridge Park in the Township of Clark. Classic rock, soul, TV show tunes and a heavy dose of insane banter are all part of the show when The Nerds take the stage. For 25 years, these Jersey guys – Biff, Spaz, Stretch and Mongo – have performed their endearing brand of rock and pop covers on a whirlwind ride that has taken them from musty watering holes along the Jersey Shore to the PNC Bank Arts Center, Carnegie Hall, and the set of “Good Morning America.” And now The Nerds make their triumphant return to a stage near you! The Union County information van will be at the concert site with knowledgeable staff from the Union County Sheriff’s Office – including the K-9 Unit – to answer questions and offer information about interesting activities and services available to Union County residents. The Nerds show at Oak Ridge Park is sponsored by the Union County Democratic Committee. Lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets are encouraged. Refreshments and snacks will be available from vendors. The remaining free concert in the weekly Union County Summer Arts Festival series will feature Jimmy and the Parrots (a Jimmy Buffett cover band) at Oak Ridge Park in Clark on Wednesday, August 25, at 7:30 p.m. In case of rain, call the Union County Department of Parks and Community Renewal at (908) 558-4079 after 3:00 p.m. on the concert day or visit the Union County web site: www.ucnj.org/parks/summerarts.html to learn the status of that evening’s show. There is no alternate site for the outdoor concerts and shows may be cancelled due to severe weather.
