ELIZABETH, NJ – The Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders is pleased to present an exhibit of photographs by Millicent K. Brody of Westfield in the gallery space at the Union County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs, located at 633 Pearl Street in Elizabeth. The selection of her work entitled “Musings” is on display at the Pearl Street Gallery until July 29. Gallery hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays. Free on-site parking is available.

“The talent and diversity of our county artists ensure an inspiring and interesting variety of exhibitions at the Pearl Street Gallery,” said Freeholder Bette Jane Kowalski, liaison to the Union County Cultural and Heritage Programs Advisory Board. “We are pleased to display an exhibit of Mrs. Brody’s insightful and varied photographs.”

Last year, Millicent K. Brody received first place honors in the professional category for her photograph entitled “Medium Rare” in the Union County Senior Citizens Art Exhibit and went on to exhibit in the New Jersey Senior Citizens Art Show. She is a talented photographer with a great eye for the unique. Brody is a public relations consultant writing articles for clients as well as business magazines and newsletters. She is a member of The Contemporary Art Group of Union County.

A former Westfield school teacher, Mrs. Brody continually urged her students to write every day. She taught school during the day while pursuing a career as a freelance journalist. After attending The New School in Manhattan, her first story appeared in The New York Times. From there, she was invited to write a column for The Westfield Leader. Her columns appear in Edible Jersey Magazine, Courier-News, Home News Tribune, Asbury Park Press, and online for The Alternative Press, WestfieldToday.Com, and New Jersey Life Magazine.

Brody came to photography through her newspaper writing. “I was definitely not camera savvy,” she said. “When I accepted my first restaurant job my editor said, ‘You’ll need a camera. All of your stories must be accompanied with a photograph.’” She purchased her first camera and headed to Girasole Restaurant in Bound Brook where her article and photo are still featured in the lobby. Now she is looking forward to the launch of her blog: Central Jersey Eats.
