MOUNTAINSIDE, NJ – The Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders and Trailside Nature and Science Center are pleased to announce the 2010 Wildlife Photography Contest. Amateur photographers, ages 6 through adult, are invited to enter their original photographs of wild animals in their natural habitat.
“Wild animals are challenging photographic subjects, and capturing them on film requires knowledge of the animal, its habits and habitats,” said Freeholder Chairman Daniel P. Sullivan. “The hobby of wildlife photography is a great way to better understand the natural world.”
Contest entries should be un-matted, unframed 5” x 7” black & white or color prints. Participants may enter a maximum of two photographs. Prizes will be given in each of three age groups: 6-11, 12-17, 18 and older. Deadline for entries is April 9.
All photographs will be displayed at the Trailside Visitor Center through May 14. Winners will be announced at 4:45 p.m. on April 18 at the 20th annual Wildlife Sunday event held from noon – 5 p.m. at Trailside. Photographs will be judged by local area professional photographers. The judging will be based on originality, composition, technical excellence and artistic merit. A prize will be awarded to the best photograph in each age group.
The winners of the 2009 Wildlife Sunday Photography Contest included John Murphy of Hillsborough in the 18 and older category, Sean McVey of Basking Ridge for the 12-17 year-old category, and Daniel Moreira of Elizabeth in the 6-11 year-old category.
