WESTFIELD, NJ – Trailside Nature and Science Center offers a unique opportunity for adults, ages 18 and older, to learn some specialty recipes when they sign up for “Cooking an Old Fashioned Italian Macaroni Dinner,” at Classic Thyme Cooking School in Westfield. Sponsored by the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders, the cooking class is scheduled for Monday, March 1, from 7:00-10:00 p.m.
The cooking class will begin with a short lecture from Chef David Martone to introduce everyone to old world Italian cooking traditions. Participants will enjoy Italian music as they prepare their dishes and will be able to view a collection of old family photos and pasta making equipment that has been in Chef David’s family for more than 100 years.
Class participants will be shown important techniques for all preparations. Some examples of the recipes that are included on the menu are a zucchini appetizer, handmade cavatelli, homemade meatballs, handmade Italian sausage, roasted red peppers, broccoli rabe, and the gravy (red sauce). All dishes are made from scratch and ingredient changes can be made to accommodate most dietary needs. Participants are welcome to bring their own wine to serve with dinner.
“The classes in Trailside’s Adult Program Series have been designed to offer something for everyone, from Art History lectures to Gentle Yoga exercises, as well as this current opportunity to delight the taste buds with Italian cooking,” said Freeholder Chairman Daniel P. Sullivan. “This class is sure to be a fun-filled evening, where students will learn some traditional Italian cooking techniques and enjoy a delicious meal with new friends.”
Pre-registration is required. Please call Trailside at 908-789-3670 or visit us online at www.ucnj.org/trailside to learn more about this program or other upcoming workshops and special events at Trailside.
