Elizabeth Man Indicted on Drug Charges

A Union County Grand Jury indicted an Elizabeth man last week on charges of 1st Degree distribution of heroin and various weapon offenses, announced Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow.
 
Raymond Fitzgerald DOB: 4/2/1974 was arrested on February 8, 2010 in Elizabeth by officers serving an arrest warrant. Fitzgerald was being sought after he failed to appear in court on a day he was to be sentenced to state prison on a separate drug charge.

He spent nearly two years on the run before his arrest in February. At the time of his arrest he had heroin on his person and at an apartment in Newark and is charged with selling over 4,000 bags of illegal drug to dealers in Essex and Union Counties.

Police also recovered five handguns, a bulletproof vest and hollow point bullets from Fitzgerald’s apartment.
 
Prosecutor Romankow commended Elizabeth Police Detective James Malone for his role in the investigation and the Union County Forensics Laboratory, which processed evidence and positively linked seized items to Fitzgerald.
 
If found guilty on the charges Fitzgerald faces life in prison.

These criminal charges are mere accusations.
The defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
